TGIM Interview with Shelby Clayton, Twitter

On this week's latest episode of TGIM, The Dean's List welcomes Shelby Clayton to the virtual stage.

Atlanta born and New York City-based, this University of Georgia grad, is now an associate partner manager on the sports team for Twitter.

At Twitter, Clayton manages partner relationships with the NFL, NBA, and ESPN by identifying content strategies, driving innovative executions, and building program materials.

Before her current position, she held the client account manager role for Twitter and a programmatic analyst at ESPN.

As a result of her professional achievements, she was named an ADCOLOR FUTURE in 2018. Additionally, she has been featured in the University of Georgia Magazine, CBS Sports, Fans Favorite Fan, and CNN.

Her long-time interest in sports developed from the bond she shared with her father and the impacts sports have outside of the game. Specifically, she acknowledges the uniqueness that sports have on social justice and has a passion for leveraging sports and social issues to change the world.

Clayton explains that she is inspired by sports and says "The things that I have seen sports be able to do and how athletes are taking their own narrative to bring these issues to forefront have really inspired me to get into sports."

She shares some tidbits about what she wishes she knew about the sports industry and encourages those interested to effectively communicate their skills and how they can add value to an organization.

Our takeaways from Clayton:

1. Fight for your goals and dreams. Don't take "no" as rejection.

2. You control how you respond to everything that comes your way.

3. Self love is key.
